News

Welcome to the News page....where everything that's currently going on with Panel De Pon, Tetris Attack, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Planet Puzzle League will be disclosed to you, the loyal puzzle fans!

14.JUL.2007 Hello everybody, some important news to share.  First off, we have a new web host!  OmnibusHosting.com has kindly offered to host the site, and the server switch has already taken place!

Next, as everybody knows, Planet Puzzle League was released for the Nintendo DS.  Within the next week, there will be brand new record categories for both Puzzle League GBA (long overdue!) and Planet Puzzle League DS, so please be on the lookout and tell your friends!

Lastly, we have our most important announcement.

The time has come for the site to have a major redesign. Everybody has great ideas. It's time to start doing the construction! I can't possibly do this alone.  Everybody who wants to help with the redesign of ta.net, please start posting in the forum (we have an official thread for this!) with what you'd be willing to officially contribute. There are basically 2 main areas in which you can help (with tons of subcategories). Content and design. If you are a very skilled TA player, or you would like to help make demo videos or anything like that, you fit in the content section! If you are skilled at making web pages, or graphic design, or making any cool things that would help the site look smooth and slick, you belong in the design section!  (It's obvious which category I belong in! :P   )

No task is too small....!

Please post in the forum with exactly what you'd be willing to help with, and once we agree on who's going to do what, we'll set actual deadlines to get this stuff done!

Everybody who helps will get mentioned in the site credits, as well as knowing that you helped make this site several times better than it ever was!  And who knows, perhaps we can provide some sort of prize for some randomly selected contributer once all is finished!

20.OCT.2006 Hey guys, it's been a long time!  There hasn't been much news to talk about, other than the release of Dr. Mario / Puzzle League for the GBA.  If you're a regular forum lurker you'd know that by now though!

My apologies to everybody for not updating the site in a really long time.  As many of you know, I'm a full time student, and devote about 80% of my time to studying Mathematics, and the other 20% to spending time with my girlfriend.  Thus, the site has been as is for quite a while, and I don't see that changing much in the near future.  What I do promise to faithfully maintain though is the Records database, as this site has the best posted records and videos available for Tetris Attack games.  If it has been a while since that has been updated, it's because nobody's breaking any records!

So go for it!!

In other news, the forum has been hacked!  As you can see, robots have taken over the forum, and no matter how much cleaning up I do, they always return.

The reason for this is because I use an older version of IPB, which is probably quite vulnerable by now.  In any event, I would like to upgrade to the newest version of IPB, but it costs money!  Lots of it!  $70 to be exact.

This is the time when I come to you, the loyal forum and game fans for help.  I know we're a very small group of people around here, but that's what I love about this place.  We all know each other, and it's nice to escape the perils of Gamefaqs wouldn't you say?

Anyway, I'm not trying to sell the site.  It is what it is, and has been here for many years.  Please donate money if you can to help me upgrade to the newest version of IPB.  There is no set amount, please give whatever you can.  If you are poor, don't give me anything!  If you have money to spare, then why not throw some our way?

If we don't receive enough money to upgrade to the new board, then I will refund everybody's money and look into other options.  The main reason why I want to stick with IPB though is because I don't want to lose a few years' worth of valuable posts and information!

Anyway, donations are accepted via paypal to the temporary email address of TA.net:

RIGHT HERE

(You can also snail mail me money if you wish.  Please email me for address details!)

Thank you for your support, and I hope we can have this forum for many years to come and keep discussion of this amazing series of games alive!

17.APR.2005 More records verified and new videos added!  If you want to keep your collection complete, go grab 'em now!
19.FEB.2005 Brand spanking new verified records/videos are up!  Go to the verified records section and see KirbMaster's awesome new achievements!
22.APR.2004 Thank you for all your patience....the wait is finally over....the transition of servers went over quite well, and this place seems to really be on top of their stuff.  As you may have noticed, the page loads much quicker, TA.net has actual webspace to work with, it's a fine day for TA.net.

The old board was terribly corrupted, and we had to start from scratch (unfortunately), but I'm sure the board will be full and spiced up in no time!

And now, a very important announcement.....BRAND spanking new videos up for grabs!  Yes folks, you can now see all 9 of Mike Tran's amazing World Record TA/PPL accomplishments in the verified records section of the site.....Big thanks to our resident messageboard junkie Vix44 for coming through once again with the video encoding.....

There is also a new video by Greg up there ALMOST nabbing that 60k spot....

Enjoy, and be sure to inform me if any of the links have problems!

10.APR.2004 TA.net is finally changing hosts......this change will be taking place for probably the next 7 days...the transfer should go smoothly, but just in case it doesn't, the site may be down for a little.....it shouldn't be down for more than a day or two, so pop back in sporadically till it's back for good!
23.FEB.2004
Due to much scrambling on our part, the TetrisAttack.net record videos are now back online s.gif s.gif The space has been secured, and is quite stable this time around, so go ahead and get it while it's hot (or at least lukewarm).

That's right, the TA/PPL world record runs can be viewed by all!

They are found in the verified records section by clicking on the score.

Happy Watching!

Big thanks to Theocide at Tavcom for the hosting space!

19.AUG.2003 The messageboard is down until further notice......I am working hard on this, rest assure a new forum of some kind will be functional shortly.  Check back here for the latest!  Maybe now that the forum is down, you can drink that coffee you've always wanted to drink.....ask out that attractive someone....or work on your "stage clear" techniques......or.....*gulp*...step outside!  I hear they require "clothes" out there though.....and be careful with that big ball of fire in the sky that they call "the sun"...

I hear it's hot.

Please e-mail me with any questions you may have......

04.JUN.2003 Videos are now online!  Big thanks to Gobbo for hosting them.  You can find them at the new Verified Records section.  Just click on Records, and then click on Verified Records.  All scores there have an accompanying video for your enjoyment!
01.MAY.2003 It has come to my attention that Crack Attack (a Tetris Attack clone formerly available on just Linux) is now available for Windows!  Head on over to the downloads section of this site to download it!

28.APR.2003 For those of you who missed the announcement, the messageboard will be down until 29.APR.2003 7:00PM EST

...you know.....maintenance and all that.....keep your eyes here for the latest.

30.MAR.2003 TetrisAttack.net congratulates Mike Tran (Abused Rib) for breaking the 60K barrier in the original Tetris Attack!

Expect this video (as well as many others) to go up VERY SOON.  It's being worked on right now!

So what's the next challenge?  I suppose doing it in 1P would be it!

16.FEB.2003 First of all, get Nintendo Puzzle Collection!  One can be obtained by going to:

NCS

They have it for the low price of $55, the lowest I've seen it anywhere!

Of course, to play this you will either need a modified Gamecube or a Freeloader, Datel's new swap disc that allows any region disc to be played on any system.

Those can be found in many places......I would get it from Datel's official site:

Datel

Also, there is a petition that was started by Ichinisan about including netplay in the US release of Nintendo Puzzle Collection.  If you support this, go here to sign it!

Also, in very exciting news, there is a new video dude on our team who is in charge of putting TA/PPL videos I have up on the site!  You will now be able to see those Record games in all of their glory!  Expect them up in the next 2 weeks or so.....in the meantime, record your games!!!   Once that record game is obtained, you always kick yourself for not having recorded it!  Send it in and you can be featured on the site, as well as be in the official World Records book.....

02.FEB.2003 Hello all!  We are all eagerly awaiting the release of "Nintendo Puzzle Collection", out in Japan on 07.FEB.2003,  Unfortunately, there has still not been a version announced for the American Gamecube, but don't worry!  You can also modify your Gamecube!  (that's what us freaks will do while we wait!)  Some cool import sites will be posted on the messageboard soon enough!  Also, I will post a thorough review of the what is different and new in this title as soon as I get the game!  (probably within a week of it's release)

Also, big site cleanup took place......no more dead links anywhere on the site.  (if you see any, let me know!)

Also, go check out some new passwords contributed by site members on the passwords page!

12.DEC.2002 Yes, it is confirmed!

There WILL be a release on the Japanese Game Cube called "Nintendo Puzzle Collection", which will feature 3 classic games, "Panel De Pon", "Dr. Mario", and "Yoshi's Cookie". Nintendo DID confirm it with me, however, I do not know the date. According to a Japanese magazine, it will be compatible with the Game Boy, and, feature four player support!!!

Word on the streets is that it will be released as soon as January, but until I hear this from Nintendo (or some official source), I cannot confirm this.

No, there is no official confirmation of this game coming out in the states yet, but WHO KNOWS what the future lies. I would imagine that if it does come out here, it will be "Tetris Attack" instead of "Panel De Pon", but that is just a guess.

Any information will be posted here immediately. Also, if any information is obtained, let me know!

For now, I've just got to get my hands on some sort of way to play Japanese games!! Anybody with any info, let me know! We cannot be deprived!

In other news, as some of you may have noticed, there were problems with the site recently, in that anything recently updated was lost....

It was entirely the host's fault, and they have restored the board as much as they possibly could.....this is probably avoidable if I download backups of the board every week or so....I guess I've learned my lesson!

09.OCT.2002 TetrisAttack.net is back!!  Yes, after being off the net for a few days, we are back.  We are very sorry for the troubles, it won't happen again!  This is the first time we've ever had a problem with the site, so you can bet we were just as mad to see this happen as you were!  But it won't happen again folks!

In other news, look out soon for the records section to split up once again.....we will have a "VERIFIED RECORDS" section and the regular section you see now (in light of people actually sending in their taped scores).

Keep 'em coming!!

01.OCT.2002 There is a new form on the Records Info page for submitting records.  The kind folks at Twin Galaxies made a customized submission form for these games, so submitting records is now VERY easy!  Just fill in the spaces on the form and you're all set!  I wasn't given an exact date as to when they will no longer take scores, but I do know it is soon!  Now is your last chance to tape a good run and send it on in, and get a lot of recognition for it!
18.SEP.2002 Come on guys, just TWELVE MORE DAYS to get your taped record in to me!  For details, visit the Records Info page!  Just follow the directions, and your name will be in print in the next records book due to come out in a few months!

Also, a Tetris Attack competition will be announced soon enough....we are working hard with Twin Galaxies to set one of these up, the winner(s) receiving a certificate and a prize TBD.  More info as SOON as it develops.  In the meantime, get taping!!  You are guaranteed in the book at this moment, since I have received no submissions!  Come on, you're making this too easy for me to claim every spot!!  >:)

31.AUG.2002 Ok, it is now official.  TetrisAttack.net is now fully responsible for taking in and verifying scores for Twin Galaxies.  Because of this grand responsibility, much has been redone.  For one, there are several new competing categories over in our records section, so I suggest you run on over and take a look!  1P and 2P are now split up (due to popular demand), and some BRAND spanking new categories are there as well!  If you want to be recognized on Twin Galaxies with your achievement, you will need to carefully read the info posted at the Records Info page, and do all that it says to do.  We have tried to make this process as SIMPLE as possible, so that everybody can become involved!  SEPTEMBER 30, 2002 is the deadline if you want your name to be published in their next book, so now's the time to show everybody what you've got people!!! Also, another good thing to come out of this is that you will start to see many new tournaments/competitions form in the near future!  A FAQ was also added, as well as a new patch fix in the roms section to make those pesky "?" chains in TA worth some points on your emulator!
09.AUG.2002 Massive updates to the site!  Records have been updated, as well as 2 AWESOME programs added to the Related Programs section (look in "downloads").  Please direct any questions to the authors.  Also, I have been in contact with the referees over at Twin Galaxies.  As I hoped, they are willing to work directly with us in adding these records on their official world record database (which means they will eventually get published in the Hard Cover edition of their site.  They are setting up customized score submission sheets for the site, as well as expediting everything we put through there.  However, there is a catch.  In order to be recognized by Twin Galaxies, you MUST videotape your record.  The Tetris Attack records on their site are very low (compared to our awesome scores) and Pokémon Puzzle League isn't even in their database yet! I suggest you all start taping your accomplishments!  Once you have something on tape, please contact me and I will give you my mailing address.  Also, records that are sent in with a videotape would get a special mention on the records page itself, since the score would actually be officially verified.
05.MAY.2002 This records board is getting sick!  Records are being broken left and right, who will be dethroned next???

Also, in the near future, TetrisAttack.net will be accepting pictures of your achievements, stats, your location, etc. to add to the records page.  So when somebody clicks on your name or your achievement, they will see the stats of your game, a picture of it, or even a quote if you wish to share one!  So start snapping and recording people....

Lastly,TetrisAttack.net forgot to mention that on March 23, 2002, we became one year old!!  So happy belated birthday to us.....

12.APR.2002 Well, records have been updated a few times....hmmmm, what else is there to say?  Unfortunately, not much going on in the world of TA/PPL/PDP....I found out a while ago though that Nintendo actually FINISHED Panel De Pon for the Nintendo 64, but they decided not to release it!  Aargh!  how frustrating is that? We could've had a 64 version of the game...........WITHOUT THE BLASTED POKÉMON!  Then maybe the game would have received the recognition/respect it deserves...(or hell, at the LEAST we wouldn't have to hear Pikachu anymore!)  :)  Who knows, there is always Game Cube....(or the Game Boy Advance)

26.JAN.2002

Hey there folks....I know, it's been a while.......So, a bunch of new records were added AND updated!  I'm impressed at all the great scores!  I didn't know that many TA/PPL addicts existed!  Also, check out the skill chains section for a BRAND NEW MOVE!!!  That's right...FINALLY, a full write up and illustration of the year's most AWESOME discovery....the "STEALTH"!  (ok....a bit over the top, I know...but it IS cool!)  Another couple moves are on their way as soon as we figure out how to explain them, but for now, have fun with this one!  It is definitely our FAVORITE showing off move by far!
04.DEC.2001 Look out! Records Page updated!  The slots are getting occupied and we is excited!  Look for TWO brand spanking new skill moves to be unearthed either later this week or the beginning of this week.....yes, you too can score EVEN higher!  After all, the more techniques you've got under your belt, the more you'll kick a full loaf of ass!
29.NOV.2001 Records Page updated.  Also, the Book of Tetris was added to the downloads section.  TetrisAttack.net HIGHLY recommends it!
15.NOV.2001 Records Page updated yet again.  Also, Greg and I are working HARD now on a MAJOR site update.  Future features (hehe) will include a MUCH more colorful, innovative site design...a COMPLETE set of emulator movies...FINISHED (gasp) sections, and a possible Tetris Attack competition!   If you have any ideas, let us know!  We are always open to suggestions!
